I Admit it; I Know Very Little About SEO
Yet to some I am considered an SEO Expert! Could this just be an example of one of my little catchphrases where I tell people that if someone knows X about a subject and you know X+1; then you are the expert.
I no longer take on clients as I don’t want to be responsible for their livelihoods; by that I mean if I mess up it could cost them their business. I don’t feel I know enough to say; hand on heart; that what I say will always be right in the eyes of Google.
In saying that I tend to do very little in the way of link-building and am forever trying new things to see what works [now] and what doesn’t. I say on the home page of this website that I am a philosophical SEO; what I mean by this is; I base my SEO on what would I do if I where Google.
What Makes an SEO an SEO Expert?
I am often asked; what makes an SEO an SEO Expert? I mentioned above about knowing X+1. Well to gain X+1 you need to understand that Google is forever changing its algorithm. So if you start by admitting that you will never know everything about SEO, you might actually succeed.
See in reality, being an SEO Consultant means you need to know as much about what not to do as you need to know what you can do to rank; maybe more.
Lets be honest; this website is shit! However it does rank quite well for some search terms that a few companies may like to have. For instance it is on page two for SEO Expert when I know very little about SEO.
It is where it is because I try NOT to do certain things with my version of SEO. I don’t go out looking for links; though sometimes I find them naturally. I do though try working on the code and content of the site to see if a word here or there makes a difference.
This site is also high for all the local terms I have added such as SEO Portsmouth etc. It is there probably as a result of me not doing what others are doing. But does this make me an SEO Expert? I think not.
More will be added in the near future as things to do!
